Waiting for the Votes

Of course Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar were persuaded to drop out before Super Tuesday so that Joe Biden could get more votes. Polls suggest it is working, and that there has been a considerable swing to Biden in the Super Tuesday states over the past couple of days. It appears that the not-Sanders voters are moving rapidly to Biden. If that appearance holds up in today’s results, we’re probably looking at a Biden nomination. Damn.

This could very well be a replay of 2016. Biden is supposed to be the “safe,” establishment choice, so the sheeple dutifully vote for him. I’m saying right now that if Biden is the nominee and he loses to Trump, we all go to Washington and absolutely trash the DNC headquarters on South Capitol St SE. And then we march on the MSNBC studios in Rockefeller Center. I’ll stop short of calling for tar and feathers, for now. See also Paul Waldman, Sanders is a terribly risky nominee. But so is Biden.

Young folks, you’d damn well better get your butts out to vote today. It may be your last chance.

I was looking forward to the Super Tuesday returns, thinking it should be a good night for Sanders, and now I am bummed. At least we don’t have to listen to Chris “Tweety” Matthews any more. See Margaret Sullivan on the real reason Matthews had to go.

  1. I’m hoping for Warren to have over 300 delegates today.

her campaign made over 1,000,000 calls on February 29, along with 1,500,000 texts. I was part of that effort.

    • My primary is *next* Tuesday. I confess I'm waiting to see how Warren does. If her campaign shows signs of life I will vote for her; if not, I will vote for Bernie.

  2. Why, why – with the exception of Obama – do I always have to vote for the "safe" Democratic candidate in the presidential election?

    Oy.

I'm afraid that tRUMP will chew on Biden like he does some over-done steak.

    Oy.

That's all I got., just, "Oy."

  3. This is one of those rare postings of yours, Maha, where I agree with every word, and with every iota of shared disgust. Agree with Waldman, two risky choices. Genius electoral process, or maybe "genius" voters. At least Sanders – not my favorite – should win big in California. Maybe he can move out here. At 78 with one foot in the grave.

And I am so glad Chris Matthews is over. When I think of him, all I can see is his big open mouth bellowing angry stupidity. It's just remarkable that this is the unwanted image burned into my brain.

  4. Chris Matthews and Joe Biden have something in common; they've both been known to have creepy attitudes toward women. I'm committed to voting against Republicans every chance I get, but the Democrats aren't making it easier.

  5. No one candidate was the perfect candidate.

No Knight on horseback will save us.We have to save ourselves. It would've been nice if Bloomberg could have forked over a couple of hundred million to flip the senate instead pf a vanity run. We just have to concentrate on getting the ship back into the water. Improvements will take time and collective effort.

I want to get rid of the electoral college, an equal rights amendment, and right to vote and have it counted amendment. E. Warren needs to be put in charge of economic reforms.
